Athletics, the "Queen of Sports", is one of the major modern Olympic disciplines. Over a century, the athletic program was expanded from 12 disciplines at the 1896 Games in Athens, where only men competed, to 23 men's and 20 women's disciplines. One of the medallists of the modern Olympic Games is the Slovenian athlete, Brigita Bukovec.
