Fencing is one of the oldest Olympic disciplines, and in Slovenia it first appeared back in the middle of the 19th century. In Stockholm, Rudolf Cvetko, maestro of Slovenian fencing and a fencing instructor in Vienna, won a medal together with his fellow countryman Rihard Verderber.
