Slovenians decided to take the opportunity of this year's Olympic
Games in Sydney for a broader presentation of their country, which is
all but unknown to Australians. The "Slovenia in Sydney
2000" project combines sports, cultural and tourist presentations
of our country. Most events will take place between 10 and 31
September at the presentation's main location - Slovenia House on
York Street.
Slovenia House will be located on the 13th floor at 99 York Street
and will be visually marked on the building's facades on York and
Clarence streets with the "Slovenia in Sydney 2000"
logo. Slovenia House will primarily be intended for presenting
national sportsmen and their achievements and sponsors of the
Slovenian Olympic Committee, while part of the premises will be
dedicated to Olympian Leon Stukelj and an exhibition of his
accomplishments in sport. For the duration of the Olympic Games, the
presentation will be combined with an exhibition on various segments
of the Slovenian economy, culture, ethnology, ethnography and tourism,
set up in the eastern entrance hall of Sydney Mutual House.
Nevertheless, the focus of the presentation will undoubtedly be the
Slovenian restaurant in the Serigo bar in the vicinity of Slovenia
House, where exquisite Slovenian cuisine and wines will be served with
the aim of capturing the attention of the broader Australian and
international public.
The presentation will particularly serve the interests of the
Slovenian economy and tourism. In co- operation with Australian
partners, the Slovenian Chamber of
Commerce will attempt to bring together the respective economies
of the two countries, while the
Slovenian Tourist Board
will prepare a number of events for representatives of Australian
tourism. One of them is a business conference about the Slovenian
economy, organised by the Slovenian Tourist Board, the Ministry of
Tourism and Small Business of New South Wales and the New South Wales
Chamber of Commerce. The conference will take place on 14 September,
one day before the official opening of the Olympic Games.
