Joze Plecnik

Joze Plecnik, architect and town planner (1872-1957). Few cities have had the personal seal of a single artist so strongly impressed as Ljubljana, the birthplace of the architect Joze Plecnik. Over three and half decades, he transformed the former provincial town into the capital of the Slovene nation. He tried with monumentality and beauty to instill a sense of selfconfidence in the inhabitants.

Besides the extraordinary high quality of his work Plecnik has also been attributed abroad with a high degree of originality and innovation in the use of historical, regional and even local features.

Edvard Ravnikar

Edvard Ravnikar, architect and town planner (1907-1993). Ravnikar's well thought-out design reveals the strong influence of Plecnik and of functionalist architecture of the period (he spent some time working in Corbusier's studio). Ravnikar's work formed an inspired and exceptional developmental bridge from post-war modernist minimalism all the way to the brink of post-modernism.
